Abba Dental, helping you save face this summer

At Abba Dental, we know how important it is to protect your face while playing sports. Summer, which is right around the corner, brings an increase in outdoor activities and a greater chance of damaging your precious mouth and pearly whites. That’s why Drs. Keith Lim and Baha Azizi are doing our part to spread the word that facial sports injuries can be avoided simply by reminding your kids to wear mouth guards. Ask us—Drs. Lim or Azizi will provide a mouth guard for any patient in active treatment.

In addition, here are some tips for keeping your mouth safe on the field, courtesy of our friends at the American Association of Orthodontists:

• Wear mouth guards during contact sports
• Wear a helmet
• Stretch before and after a game or practice
• Wear protective eye wear
• Wear a face shield to avoid scratched or bruised skin
• Be observant—even as a spectator

Whether you are an athlete or casual sports participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, a bite guard will help reduce symptoms of TMJ. We custom make mouth guards in both soft and hard materials. Please give us a call at 604-688-7201 to learn more about mouth guards!

Ask Abba Dental: Why is it so important to have straight teeth?

Some people wonder why Vancouver dentists Drs. Baha Azizi and Keith Lim work so hard to give our patients straight, perfect teeth. Of course it’s nice to have a smile full of evenly aligned teeth, but did you know that straightening your teeth with Invisalign at Abba Dental can keep them healthier? Straight teeth lead to better oral hygiene, increasing your chances of keeping your own natural teeth for a lifetime!

Straight teeth are less prone to decay, because they collect less plaque—the sticky colorless substance that forms on our teeth and leads to tooth decay; and they are easier to keep clean!

If you’re wondering whether your teeth might cause problems because they are out of alignment, please give us a call to set up an appointment. Drs. Lim and Azizi can help you decide whether or not you will benefit from Invisalign treatment.

Oral cancer and you, from Abba Dental

In our continuing efforts to provide the most advanced technology and highest quality care available to our patients, Drs. Keith Lim and Baha Azizi provide oral cancer screening services to the Vancouver community, in addition to head and neck screens. The fact is, every hour of every day, someone dies of oral cancer, which is the sixth-most common diagnosed form of the disease. The five-year survival rate is only 50 percent, and oral cancer is one of the few cancers whose survival rate has not improved.

Early detection of pre-cancerous tissue can minimize or eliminate the potentially disfiguring effects of oral cancer and possibly save your life. When discovered early, oral cancers have a 80-90% survival rate. Ask the doctors or our staff at Abba Dental about a thorough oral cancer screening at your next appointment! For more details and facts about this serious disease, visit the Oral Cancer Foundation’s website, www.oralcancerfoundation.org.
